As a board certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Bobby Shelley, MD, specializes in hip and knee replacement and reconstruction.
Dr. Shelley was born and raised in Savannah, GA and attended Savannah Country Day School. He completed his undergraduate studies at Furman University where he majored in biology and graduate with honors. He attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA, where he graduated in the top of his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He also completed his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia, scoring the highest in the country on the orthopedic resident in-training exam during his final year of residency. He then completed a fellowship in Hip and Knee Reconstruction at the Norton Orthopaedic Institute in Louisville, Kentucky. There, he trained with internationally recognized experts in the direct anterior approach for total hip replacement.
Dr. Shelley specializes in hip and knee replacement and reconstruction, employing the most current nonoperative and operative techniques to treat arthritic and complex problems of the hip and knee. This includes interests in anterior approach hip replacement, total and partial knee replacement, robotic assisted joint replacement, and revision surgery for failed joint replacements.
When not serving his patients, Dr. Shelley enjoys spending time with his wife, Virginia, and their two children. He also enjoys boating, scuba diving, fitness, golf, and hopelessly rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves.
