A native of the coastal empire, John D McCormick, MD is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon with Optim Orthopedics who provides consultation and treatment for patients with all spine disorders, including cervical spine and minimally invasive procedures.
Dr. McCormick didn’t need to look far to find a quality education, earning a bachelor’s degree at the University of Georgia before attending medical school at the Medical College of Georgia. During his time at UGA he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and also received the Peacock Family award for outstanding work in Neuroscience. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Florida where he was selected as the Resident Researcher of the Year in 2011. Following his residency, he traveled overseas for an AO International Spine rotation in Brisbane, Australia. Returning to the states, he would go on to complete an Orthopedic/Neurosurgery Spine Fellowship at the University of Virginia. Along the way, he has published in peer reviewed journal articles.
After traveling the world, the coastal empire called him home, and Dr. McCormick returned to the area in 2012. Dr. McCormick spent his childhood on a family farm and understands the value of hard work. Dr. McCormick uses these principals to guide him in patient care with the goal of returning patients to work and activities outside of work with as little pain and discomfort as possible.
Dr. McCormick is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys fly fishing and traveling. On the weekends, you can find he and his wife watching his two boys play soccer or spending time with his boys fishing.
