PEDIATRIC ORTHOPEDICS
Optim is proud to have one of a handful of fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeons in practice on the east coast, from Charleston all the way to Jacksonville. Donald McCartney, MD, is a board certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon and the area’s best choice to properly evaluate and treat musculoskeletal (bone, joint, muscle) problems in children who are still growing. His practice at Optim includes the treatment of childhood sprains and fractures, growth disturbances, walking abnormalities, deformities of the spine and skeleton (such as scoliosis and clubfeet), cerebral palsy, and many other childhood skeletal problems.

You can be sure your child will get the best possible care from a multidisciplinary team of orthopedic specialists with the expertise and resources to diagnose and treat the entire range of congenital and hereditary orthopedic disorders.
Our care goes beyond healing fractures. We also treat developmental issues, such as hip dysplasia and dislocation, Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease, and other orthopedic conditions. We specialize in surgical reconstruction and cast management in case of trauma to the hands and arms, as well as congenital deformities, cysts, masses and nerve issues. Our physicians work closely with therapists and casting and splint experts.

WHAT MAKES AN PEDIATRIC ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY PROGRAM UNIQUE
Kids’ bones grow. That’s why, when it comes to kids, pediatric orthopedic specialists and surgeons are so important—the way they care for kids today has to anticipate not only where they are now, but where they’ll be five or ten years down the road.
Our team understands kids’ growth and developmental stages, and we design each pediatric orthopedic procedure and rehabilitation plan with an eye toward how each child will grow. For complex patients with long-term needs, we offer continuity of care into young adulthood and help them transition to an adult provider when they’re ready.
No matter if your child has a broken arm, a sport-related injury or a complex spine condition, rest assured they will receive state-of-the-art care administered with compassion and kindness.
From congenital differences to sports injuries and pediatric orthopedic conditions, it doesn’t matter what we’re seeing a patient for, we always put them first. We work hard to address your concerns and make sure the treatment plan is clear to you and your family.
