Wesley R. Stroud, MD
His cutting-edge approach to care involves the use of robotic arm-assisted technology for the accurate restoration of hip and knee mechanics during joint reconstruction procedures. A St. Simons Island native, Dr. Stroud received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Georgia in 2007 and later pursued his medical degree from Mercer University, Savannah. His academic excellence earned him induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then completed an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at UAB Hospital.
A significant cornerstone of Dr. Stroud’s medical training was his one-year fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at the renowned Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center. Guided by the globally esteemed Dr. James R. Andrews, this program equipped Dr. Stroud with top-tier education and training, fostering advanced decision-making and surgical skills specifically tailored to Orthopedic Sports Medicine. The invaluable experience he gained at this world-leading institute has greatly influenced his medical practice.
After his fellowship, Dr. Stroud joined Optim Orthopedics, delighted to return to his hometown and provide high-quality orthopedic care to his community. He works in tandem with a proficient team of physicians and surgeons, all committed to utilizing the latest technology to help patients and athletes return to their loved activities.
“I am very excited to join Optim Orthopedics and have the opportunity to move back home and provide orthopedic care to the community I grew up in. It is an honor to join such an incredible group of physicians and surgeons who provide top-notch care and utilize the latest technology to help patients and athletes get back to doing what they love.”
Dr. Stroud’s interest in sports medicine is deeply rooted in his personal experience, having sustained a knee injury during high school sports. This event ignited his interest in medicine and inspired his specialization in sports medicine.
Away from his professional duties, Dr. Stroud is a dedicated family man, married to Gigi, with two children, Cate (2) and Wesley Jr. (4). His hobbies span hunting, fishing, grilling, and passionately supporting Georgia football.
