Joseph Snooks, MD

A native of Effingham County, Joseph Snooks, MD, is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and Fellowship trained and board certified in primary care sports medicine.

Joseph Snooks, MD, is triple board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Primary Care Sports Medicine. He specializes in non-operative care for sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions, helping children, adults, athletes and active individuals recover safely and return to the activities they enjoy.

Born and raised in Effingham County, Dr. Snooks developed an early interest in sports medicine through his own athletic experiences. He played collegiate baseball as a pitcher at Armstrong Atlantic State University before attending Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah.

Dr. Snooks completed a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency through Prisma Health at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville earning board certification in both specialties. He later completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Alabama, where he earned his third board certification

During his fellowship, Dr. Snooks served as a team physician for the University of Alabama Football, Women’s Soccer, and Baseball teams. He provided medical coverage for several premier collegiate events, including the College Football Playoff, NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament, and the College Baseball World Series. His experience also included providing coverage for Club Hockey, Club Lacrosse, and the University of Alabama Adaptive Athletics wheelchair basketball program. In addition, he served as team physician for Central High School in Tuscaloosa and as medical director for multiple Alabama high school state championship events.

His clinical interests include acute and overuse injuries, concussion management, sports physicals, adaptive athletics, bone and joint health, musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures. His comprehensive approach may incorporate imaging, laboratory testing, physical therapy, exercise and nutrition guidance, PRP, bone stimulation and injections when appropriate.

  • Concussion protocol and management
  • Using non-surgical modalities such as physical therapy and customized exercises, to help prevent and treat common sports-related muscular and skeletal conditions and injuries.
  • work alongside physical therapists, prosthetists, coaches, trainers and other members of the athlete’s care team to help improve movement, protect long-term joint health and support continued participation
  • Obtain and utilize special knowledge of athletic conditioning principles and apply it when helping patients.
  • Focus on rehabilitation to increase and optimize functionality and mobility, and to prevent injuries from reoccurring.
  • Educate patients with nutritional advice and guidance, mainly on diet and exercise, and how it will help build strength and endurance, enhancing their athletic performance.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Snooks enjoys spending time with his wife, Shelby and their four sons. He also enjoys being outdoors, golfing, hunting, fishing, and coaching youth sports. He is proud to return home and serve the families and athletes of Southeast Georgia

Concussion Management – ImPACT Certified – ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is a neurocognitive assessment. ImPACT has two components: baseline testing and post-injury testing which are used in conjunction to determine if a patient can safely return to an activity.

Diagnostic Care

Our sports medicine physicians perform a thorough history and physical examination and develop individualized treatment plans. Advanced imaging and specialized tests are utilized as needed to help diagnose acute and chronic sports injuries. Our treatments include education, self-directed exercise, physical therapy, regenerative medicine, psychological interventions and nutritional support. We regularly perform minimally invasive to highly complex surgeries using the latest technology.

Running Support

Our services include biomechanical evaluations, footwear recommendations, gait retraining, VO2 testing, strength and conditioning and more.
Whether your goal is to run an ultra-marathon or start jogging, our running medicine specialists help keep you injury-free with a gait analysis that includes slow-motion video, specialized tests and an individualized plan for getting you back to running or keeping you running with a healthy gait.

Credential Impact Consultant ("CIC")

When your athlete has sustained a concussion or is suspected of having sustained a concussion he/she will not be cleared for athletic participation until he/she has had further medical evaluation by a health care provider qualified in treating concussions.
Dr. Lancaster is the only physician in the Statesboro and Savannah area who is a trained and certified Credentialed ImPACT Consultant (CIC). This highly specialized concussion assessment method provides the most accurate injury evaluation and treatment protocol for the patient. As a featured CI medical provider, Dr. Lancaster can provide the most comprehensive concussion care for patients of all ages, including pediatric patients, worker’s comp injuries, and remote patients, via telemedicine.
