As a fellowship trained total-joint surgeon, Dr. Powell implements advanced robotic-assisted surgery techiques to optimize the best results previously thought to be impossible.
Charles “Charlie” Powell, MD grew up in Atlanta where, at 18, his fascination of medicine came during a mission trip to Kenya. The ability to transform peoples lives by medical treatment had a profound effect, leading him to pursue it as a life-long mission. Dr. Powell attended GSU, where he met his wife during biology lecture hall. As a diligente top-notch student, he graduated Summa Cum Laude then on to Medical College of Georgia as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. At MCG, orthopedic surgery revealed it’s appeal to provide life-changing treatment to patients, which solidified his career path. During his residency at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, he was busier than ever. He achieved the Chairman’s Academic award, married his wife, fathered two children, published several peer-reviewed papers and was the chief-resident in his final year.
Dr. Powell’s fellowship is where he applied his diligence to specializing in total-joint replacement with a appreciation of robotic-assisted surgical techniques. In the field of total-joint replacement & MAKO assisted surgery, Dr. Powell learned under esteemed surgeons such as Aldo Rieso, MD (OrthoCarolina), Preteesh Patel, MD (Cleveland Clinic), Jorge Manrique, MD (Rothman Institute) & Carlos Higuera, MD (Rothman Institute). He was able to train with the most tested and advanced techniques for total-joint replacement, revisions, and MAKO total-knee replacements.
Today, Dr. Powell resides in St. Simon’s Island with his wife and two children so they can be close to her family and enjoy the beauty of the Golden Isles. When Dr. Powell is not busy treating patients at Optim Orthopedics in Brunswick & Jesup, he enjoys solid rounds of golf and hunting.
